SJJMUMC Mission Statement

We the people of Sarah Jane Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church claim for our mission the following:

  • To reach out to our local and world community with the Good News of Jesus Christ through acts of love and radical hospitality.
  • To connect people to God with the trans-formative experiences of dynamic worship, the sacraments, prayer and frequent fellowship with believers to bring spiritual healing and wholeness in their lives.
  • To equip Christian disciples with inspired teaching, the persistent study of scripture, meaningful conversation, spiritual discernment and gift development empowering disciples to actively live as ambassadors of Christ.

To this end, we accept the village of Johnson City as the primary focus of our mission and pledge those resources of the history, building, finances, leadership and talents which have been so generously granted to us by the grace of God.

Sarah Jane Johnson Memorial UMC welcomes all visitors and guests.

There is a handicapped accessible restroom with a Koala Bear Baby Changing Station which is located in the church’s Maine Street Cafe.  Care is available in the Nursery for preschool aged children and can be found in the lower level.   Hearing assistance devices, large print Bibles, hymnals and large print bulletins are available in the parlor.  Ask an Usher or Greeter for assistance.

The Administrative Council

The Administrative Council is comprised of church leaders who head up different teams and committees at Sarah Jane.

Moderator: Jim Lane
Facilitates the meetings and works closely with the pastor and team leaders.

Secretary: Linda Rogers
Takes notes and provides agenda and minutes to members.

Pastor: Rev. Hyun Joon Kim
Attends meetings and provides information to the council about conference and local church activities.

Christian Education Coordinator: David Black
Reports out on activities of Christian Education (Pre-K—Adult) and on the youth of the church. This also includes the progress of small group ministries.

Hospitality Team: Rose McConell & Diane Olivet
This team meets monthly with the pastor, Christian Education, Altar Guild, Membership Care,  and the directors of the Praise Band and the Choir. This group deals with the worship services and the overall hospitality of the church organization.

Outreach: Reverend Patricia Cardin
The George F. Johnson Dream Center is the core of this team’s mission. The center deals with Johnson City Youth and provides opportunities for personal success.  The team also oversees the Lord’s Table Dinner which provides a free meal each Tuesday night.  It also hosts the annual Open House with a concert, cocoa and confections after the Johnson City Christmas Parade.
